As the semester comes to the end, so does the existing executive team of ASFV.  Elections are taking place on April 29th @ 5:00 (location TBA) so we need nominations for potential executives for the term of Fall 2010-Summer 2011 !

ASFV’s mission is to help provide accounting students in the Fraser Valley the most engaging learning experience and help students achieve success in their careers. We intend on accomplishing this by creating a network through which we provide students with opportunities to connect with their peers, gain experience, and network with accounting professionals in fun social settings.

Scholarships! Apps Due May 10th for Fall !!

Hey Accounting Students!

Don’t miss out on the wonderful scholarships offered here at UFV!

There are numerous scholarships available, but the ones that may peak your interest are the following:

CERTIFIED MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANTS ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: $1,500 credit towards CMA student fees.

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV Business Degree graduate who:

  • is interested in pursuing the CMA
  • has a final program GPA in the top quartile of the graduating group and has the highest GPA in BUS 348
  • is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant

HOW TO APPLY: Application forms for this scholarship is available on-line at MyUFV.  Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information, click on Student Services, then the tab for Financial Aid.

CGA ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: $500 towards UFV tuition fees (one available)

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV student who has completed the first year of Accounting Diploma program or the third year of the degree program.

HOW TO APPLY: Application forms for this scholarship is available on-line at MyUFV.  Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information, click on Student Services, then the tab for Financial Aid.

DEADLINE: May 10.

STIPULATIONS: The main criteria for this award is academic excellence in the student’s previous year of studies. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.  Please note that this award can only be received once by the same student.

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS’ EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:  $2,000

AVAILABLE TO:  A UFV student in the Bachelor of Business Administration program, with an Accounting Concentration with third year courses in progress.

HOW TO APPLY: Application forms for this scholarship is available on-line at MyUFV.  Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information, click on Student Services, then the tab for Financial Aid.

DEADLINE:  May 10.

STIPULATIONS:

  • minimum of 3.0 GPA in Bachelor of Business Administration courses over the previous 2 semesters
  • intention to enter the Chartered Accountants’ program – expressed in the student commentary on the scholarship application.

Important! Do you want to take a 400 level course in the Summer??

Are you dissatisfied with the lack of 400 level courses being offered in summer semester?
Are you needing to take an additional course?
Do you want to graduate sooner?
Do you want to take a course that isn’t usually offered?

Tejvir Pandher is petitioning for Bus 435: International Finance to be offered this summer!
Currently he is trying for a late semester condensed course but this is not for sure..

International Finance
Prerequisite(s): Acceptance to Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and BUS 349
This course is a study of international financial markets and institutions, and introduces the student to the management of assets and liabilities in an international and multinational setting. Topics to be covered include: exchange rate determination, foreign exchange risk, interest rate swaps, international portfolio management, comparative markets, and country risks.

**This is one of the required courses for the CA program **

Canada Revenue Agency Co-op Positions

Attention Co-op Students: Canada Revenue Agency is now actively recruiting for almost 20 Co-op positions!

These positions are all posted on Career Link and will only be open for
one week. The closing date is next Tuesday March 16th, 2010.

All the necessary information is provided in the postings.  Jobs are in Appeals, Trust Examination, IT, Collections Contact Officer, Client Services Officer, and Non-Filer Officer.

CGA President’s Address

The Certified General Accountants of B.C. invites you to our annual CGA President’s Address to Fraser Valley Students.
Join us for an evening of networking with CGAs from different industries and explore the career opportunities with various employers from our Partners in Employment Program (PEP). The event will feature a keynote address from CGA’s President, John Pankratz, FCGA, lots of time for networking, a complimentary buffet dinner and plenty of great door prizes.

The Business Administration Student Association (BASA) is conducting student tax returns for terrifically low prices, starting at $20. Those completing your return will be professional accountant candidates, specially trained by top ten accounting and business advisory firm Meyers Norris Penny. Your return will then be reviewed by tax managers and trained professionals to ensure accuracy. You will never get that kind of service for that price!
